West Virginia Nurse Honor Guard

Founded in 2023, the West Virginia Nurse Honor Guard is based on the principles of respect, honor and gratitude. Our mission is to recognize and celebrate the contributions of nurses who have dedicated their lives to the service of others. We are committed to providing dignified and heartfelt tributes to nurses who have passed away, ensuring their legacy of care and compassion is remembered and cherished. 

Ceremonial Guard: Volunteers stand vigil at the nurse's casket or urn

Tribute Ceremony: A symbolic ritual where the lighted lamp is passed to signify the enduring impact of the nurse's service and knowledge

Reading of the Nightingale Pledge: Recitation of the pledge to honor the nurse's commitment to the values and ethics of the profession

Presentation of the White Rose: Offering a white rose to the family of the deceased as a symbol of purity, peace, and rememberence.
